Delivery of the first new generation 66,000DWT Bulk Carrier “JAL KUMUD” built by YAMIC

On 2nd November, the first 66,000DWT bulk carrier “JAL KUMUD” built by YAMIC for a Singapore shipowner departed from the shipyard wharf and started her maiden voyage.

This vessel is the leading ship of new generation Ultramax with wide beam, shallow draft, which is based on MES-S design and upgraded by YAMIC. It also satisfies Tier III & EEDI phase III standard. The vessel cut the first steel plate in early January 2024, keel laid in mid-June, launched in mid-August, and successfully completed its sea trial in late September, with all test results meeting the design standards.

 

On the afternoon of October 30th, YAMIC held a grand naming ceremony for this new vessel. Ms. Upasana Bothra, the Godmother, Mr. V.C. Bothra, Managing Director of Jaldhi, Mr. M. Suresh Kumar, CEO of Jaldhi, Mr. Pradeep Unni, Director of Apollo, Mr. Isamu Funatsu, Director & Executive Officer of MES-S, Mr. Masakatsu Tsuru, General Manager of Class NK Shanghai office, Mr. Song Shuming, Deputy General Manager of YZJ Group and General Manager of YAMIC, Mr. Koji Tamura, COO of YAMIC, Mr. Yuji Ishimaru, CFO of YAMIC, Mr. Chen Guoqiang, Vice President of YAMIC, Mr. Shinichi Nakao, CMO of YAMIC, Mr. Yang Lifeng, Assistant to the General Manager of YAMIC, as well as representatives from all cooperation parties and employees, attended the naming ceremony.

The Godmother, Ms. Upasana Bothra named the vessel "JAL KUMUD" and tossed the champagne. Firecrackers and fireworks went off, whistles sounded, dragons and lions danced together. Wish the new vessel and its crews to sail safely, bringing honor to the builder and good luck and prosperity to the shipowner.

YAMIC and JALDHI’s relationship began at YAMIC opening ceremony in 2019. Since then, our collaboration has flourished, expanding from bulk carriers to MR tankers and LPG carriers. We are grateful for the continuous support of newbuilding orders from JALDHI. Taking this opportunity, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. Bothra, Mr. Suresh, and the entire JALDHI site team for their full support on optimizing the vessel during design and construction period. Thanks to Class NK, MES-S and every YAMIC employee who contributed to this vessel as well, because of all your diligent efforts, wisdom, and hard work, this vessel can be presented in front of us. YAMIC remains committed to ongoing improvement in safety, quality, and customer satisfaction, delivers unique value to our respected shipowner JALDHI.

Mr. V.C. Bothra, the representative of JALDHI, expressed his gratitude to all the partners for their support during the shipbuilding process and hopes to continue working together with YAMIC in the future to achieve more goals and breakthroughs.

On 30th October, under the joint witness of representatives of all parties, “JAL KUMUD” completed the signature and delivery.
