YAMIC First 80000 DWT self-unloading bulk carrier “ALGOMA LEGACY” Successfully Delivered

Time:2025-09-30

On September 28, the first 80000 DWT self-unloading bulk carrier “ALGOMA LEGACY” built by YAMIC for Canadian shipowner departed from the shipyard wharf and started her maiden voyage. The series consists of five vessels, all built by YAMIC.

“ALGOMA LEGACY” successfully completed sea trial on August 17, 2025, with all the test results meeting the design standards. This vessel's power system is equipped with a TIER III methanol-ready main engine with EGR, which has the capability to switch to methanol fuel in the future. This enables an approximate reduction of 80% in nitrogen oxides (NOx), 99% in sulfur oxides (SOx), and 10% in carbon dioxide emissions. In terms of operational efficiency, the vessel is fitted with electric roll-up sliding hatch covers and a new-generation self-unloading system, reducing dependence on specific port unloading facilities and enabling continuous and efficient cargo transfer with an unloading rate of up to 5000 tons per hour. It is also equipped with a 1500 kW CPP side-thruster propulsion system, providing the flexibility to adapt to docking and unloading operations at various ports.

On September 26, Mr. Bradley Thomas Scarbro, representing the shipowner, Mr. Song Shuming, Deputy General Manager of YZJ Group and CEO of YAMIC, and Mr. Koichiro Fuki, COO of YAMIC, jointly signed the delivery documents for the vessel “ALGOMA LEGACY”.
